City of Bones

Summary

City of Bones is the first novel in "The Mortal Instruments" series by Cassandra Clare. It introduces readers to a world filled with shadowhunters, demons, vampires, werewolves, and other supernatural beings. The story begins with fifteen-year-old Clary Fray, who unwittingly witnesses a murder at a New York City club, only to discover that the murderers are shadowhunters—warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. As Clary is drawn deeper into this hidden world, she finds out that her mother has been kidnapped and that her own life is filled with secrets that have been kept from her.

Clary, alongside shadowhunter Jace and her best friend Simon, embarks on a journey to find her mother and recover the Mortal Cup, a powerful artifact. The narrative weaves together themes of identity, family, and belonging, as Clary uncovers truths about her past and explores the new powers she's beginning to manifest.

Published by Margaret K. McElderry Books, City of Bones is targeted towards young adult readers.
