Summary
Dead Until Dark is the first book in the "Sookie Stackhouse" series (also known as the "Southern Vampire" series) by Charlaine Harris. In this supernatural mystery, Sookie's life takes a dramatic turn when she meets Bill Compton, a Civil War veteran and vampire. Since the invention of synthetic blood, vampires have come out of the coffin and now live openly among humans. Bill is Bon Temps' first resident vampire, and Sookie is unable to hear his thoughts, which she finds incredibly refreshing. They develop a romantic relationship, which exposes Sookie to the dangerous vampire world and its politics.
