Me and Earl and the Dying Girl
Summary
Me and Earl and the Dying Girl, written by Jesse Andrews, is a young adult novel that explores themes of friendship, mortality, and self-discovery. The story is narrated by Greg Gaines, an awkward high school senior who has managed to avoid deep connections with his classmates by blending into various social circles. His only real friend is Earl, with whom he spends time making terrible, low-budget film parodies.
When Greg's mother insists that he befriend Rachel, a girl in his class who has been diagnosed with leukemia, he reluctantly agrees. Initially, Greg is uncomfortable with the situation, but as he gets to know Rachel, he discovers the true meaning of friendship and the impact it can have on one's life. The novel offers a unique perspective on dealing with serious issues like terminal illness, using humor and wit to navigate through the emotional journey experienced by the characters.
Published by Amulet Books, an imprint of Abrams, the book is recommended by the publisher for readers aged 14 and up.
