The Miseducation of Cameron Post
Summary
The Miseducation of Cameron Post is a coming-of-age novel by Emily M. Danforth that explores the complexities of growing up as a lesbian in a conservative community. Set in the early 1990s in rural Montana, the story follows Cameron Post, a young girl who loses her parents in a car accident just as she begins to understand her attraction to girls. After their death, Cameron is raised by her conservative aunt and grandmother who have traditional values.
As Cameron grows older, she forms deep friendships and explores her identity more openly, which leads to her being sent to a conversion therapy center after her relationship with a female friend is discovered. The center, called God's Promise, aims to "cure" its attendees of their same-sex attractions through questionable psychological methods and religious teachings.
Published by Balzer + Bray, The Miseducation of Cameron Post is targeted towards young adult readers.
