Summary
Return to Paradise by Simone Elkeles is the sequel to Leaving Paradise, a young adult novel that continues the story of Caleb Becker and Maggie Armstrong. After a hit-and-run accident that drastically changed both their lives, the novel explores themes of redemption, forgiveness, and the ongoing effects of past actions on the present.
In Return to Paradise, Caleb and Maggie are brought back together under the premise of participating in a documentary about young people dealing with the consequences of reckless decisions. This forced reunion brings up unresolved feelings and the harsh realities of their transformed lives. As they travel with other teens who have their own stories of guilt and recovery, Caleb and Maggie confront their feelings for each other and the secrets that initially drove them apart.
