Lush

Summary

Lush by Natasha Friend is a young adult novel that explores the challenges of growing up in a family struggling with addiction. The story centers on Samantha, a thirteen-year-old girl who must navigate the complexities of adolescence while dealing with her father's alcoholism, which is a well-kept secret outside of her home.

Samantha feels isolated by the burden of this family secret, struggling with whom she can trust and confide in about her father's condition. Her emotional turmoil is compounded by normal teenage concerns about friendships, identity, and self-image. As Samantha seeks solace and understanding, she finds a confidant in an anonymous teen she corresponds with in the school library's notebook, offering her a channel to express her fears and frustrations without judgment.

Published by Scholastic Press, Lush is targeted towards young adults.
